Journey south, from Cuzco to Puno, via a spectacular voyage by comfortable train, then on across the Bolivian frontier, to see the famed and beautiful Lake Titicaca. We'll establish a home base in a beautiful hotel, right on the shores of Lake Titicaca, where we'll begin to explore this area of great vistas, rich history, and wonderful people. After exploring the local markets, the famous cathedral, the shores of the sacred lake, you'll begin to recognize how this area differs from the Cuzco area, both in customs and lifestyle. From the different patterns of their weavings, the language differences, customs and dress, the Bolivian people will fascinate and intrigue you . The second day here , we'll take a private fishing boat to nearby Isla del Sol, where we'll spend two days hiking across this enchanting island, staying in a small family hostal. To the west, magnificent views of the Royal Range are astounding, many of the snow-covered peaks in excess of 20,000 feet. There are Inca ruins here too, the fabled birthplace of the first Inca is on the way. On the second day, we'll catch another small boat, returning to the mainland. We'll trek several hours through the charming Bolivian countryside, returning to our hotel in Copacabana with tired feet and strengthened hearts. After a day of rest and relaxation in Copacabana, we'll return to Puno by bus, then the next day we'll roll into Cuzco with many happy memories, and a few souvineers. |
