We appreciated the "off the beaten path" approach in Cusco and Aqua Calientes but treasured our time at the popular sites as well. The only downfall was having to come home while Jonathan escaped into the Bollivian jungle in search of new adventures to share in the future. One Moon Adventures had taken care of everything, from packing lists to accomadations. Though everyday comes with a new adventure, there was flexibility for rest, or an alternative adventure the group could experience, together, or apart. The accomadations were great, the food was outstanding...didn't try the guinea pig though, and the excursions were timely and comfortable. The guides One Moon Adventures use are the best. Our guides were knowledgable, and I could feel they were compelled to teach us everthing about their history and culture. The guides are proud of what they do, and want you to feel and experience the beauty of their country. In addition, One Moon and the companies they participate with are all committed to the people of their country. Time and money are donated to the children of the country, building schools, buying books, sheltering and feeding those that have nothing...and most have nothing. Never has a vacation left Cheryl and I feeling like we left a place possibly a little better than when we left. Our highlight, buying new shoes for a child with none. More than an adventure? Dear Jon: I am writing about my Inca Odyssey trip which I took in June 2004. What a fabulous time I had! Your planning and expertise with the area made my first time trip to Peru a wonderful adventure. The days were expertly planned and executed and I like that you were very flexible (especially when extra shopping for the beautiful Peruvian textiles interfered with the plan) and were able to accommodate all on the adventure to their satisfaction. As a first time visitor to Peru, who was also traveling solo, I felt very comfortable and confident with my One Moon guide and staff. They were very helpful in pointing out areas of interest, acquiring tickets and transportation to the beautiful sites, and always selecting a delicious meal to end the evening. (If I try really hard I can even smell the Lomo Saltado! A delicious addition to my eating repertoire!) My favorite thing about the trip was that I didn't have to worry about a thing except enjoying myself and not spending too much on all the beautiful things. Jon and his staff, both local and Peruvian were of the highest quality and were professional at all times. Even going out of there way for an impromptu early morning winter solstice trip (Amazing!!) Traveling to South America, learning tons about the Inca Empire, hiking the Inca Trail, exploring Machu Picchu, meeting new friends and engaging with old friends was quite the adventure! The Peruvian tour guides were knowlegable and personable, the accomodations good, and the food delicious. Watch out for the Cuy! My favorite part of the trip was being on the trek. Hiking and camping in the Andes was a once in a lifetime experience. The comfortable accomodations the porters supplied for us from only the supplies on their backs was truly amazing.
